Update - Video - Dakota hates Franky´s Look

"Dakota Blue Richards has admitted she hates her character Franky’s androgynous style in the new series of Skins.

The Golden Compass star is among eight actors cast as the third generation of the hit E4 TV show for the fifth series, and had to cut her hair and adopt a boyish look to play her oddball character.

Dakota confessed: “It was really horrible – just because it was so not me and so I had kind of a lot of difficulty relating to her and understanding her.”

She added: “But I think she’s a really great character and I’m really glad that I got the opportunity to play her, even if she does dress kind of unusually.

“I just hope people are able to look past that and really see her character and aren’t shallow about it, because I think if they do that they’ll really appreciate her for what she is.”

The first episode of the new series – which begins on January 25 – sees Franky arrive at Roundview College three weeks into term, determined not to be a loner, despite struggling to fit in.

The 16-year-old actress feels very privileged to be part of the next Skins generation and has always been a fan of the show since the first series, which starred Nicholas Hoult.

She said: “I think for a lot of people it gives you confidence because not all the characters are your stereotypically popular kids and they’re not necessarily people you can just look up to in your day-to-day life, but because they’re represented and they show all the different sides to them, I think it’s really good because it means people can relate to them.

“And that’s something I always liked about Skins.”
