Skins, Episode 101, "Tony"
• Starting with the theme song, I need to hear it a few more times before I make a definite decision but it did sound good. Sort of an indie-pop song. I realize that's a vague description but we only heard the bit of it that's in the opening.
• (Overall the song choices were good, I was really impressed. I didn't recognize all of the bands but some notable ones were: The xx and Phantogram).
• A lot of the scenes we saw from that first trailer / sneak peek were re-shot. The acting, while stiff at times, was greatly improved. I know that's one of the things people were worried about, but I genuinely don't think it's going to be a problem.
• Some standouts in that department - for me - were James Newman (Tony), Britne Oldford (Cadie), and Jesse Carere (Chris). That's not to say there was anything wrong with the rest of the cast. I have a good feeling about Sofia Black D-elia (Tea) as well and Daniel Flaherty (Stanley) was strong in his episode.
• A lot of great one liners throughout. 1) Tony talking Tea while she's at cheer practice: "You ever told those sweet girls you worship at the coochie shrine?" 2) Tea talking to the group about Tony: "Who's gonna tell him we don't want to go to his dumb-ass Gossip Girl party?" 3) Daisy when telling Tony she can't come to the party: "I gotta wash my trumpet." 4) Everything Tabitha (i.e. Abigail) said. 5) Not in the show but a sentence from the script we got: Tabitha dances up to Tony, like Lil' Kim on acid.
• Cadie is fairly different from Cassie, not quite as spacey, slightly more intimidating. Has an enigmatic on-screen presence. She's introduced early on in the episode in a scene with Stan. She relates a story about hanging her dead hamster over her bed and it sort of alludes to her cooking a rabbit, lol.
• The scene with Stan visiting the drug dealer...if you've ever lived in Canada - particularly in Ontario - you will recognize those neighborhoods as being distinctly Canadian. It's not a huge deal, most people won't know the difference. But it stood out to me.
• I preferred the party scene here to the original. This is and probably will remain an unpopular opinion, but there you go. I thought it was really well done. And apparently there were rumors that the chemistry between Tony and Michelle was lacking? Complete and utter bullshit.
Skins, Episode 105, "Stanley"
• Some recognizable stuff from Sid's episode - mainly Tony's recital and Michelle's confrontation with Tabitha - but it was mostly original writing.• Dave, the teacher from the recent four minute promo is literally hilarious. Definitely a standout secondary character.
• Contains a pretty hilarious scene with Tony and Stanley in his father's car, as well as some great scenes with Stan and his dad.
• I don't want to get too far into this because the spoilers are bigger since it's a mid-season episode, but it was quite good. If you have a specific question about it then I'll be glad to answer if I can.
So that's about it. Some stuff probably slipped my mind. If you have a question just let me know and I'll try to answer it. (I can't scan the script and share it, so if that's one of your questions, you have your answer lol).
