Kyuss - Thumb
Kyuss are natives of CAL-I-FOR-NI-A and they fall under the sub genre, Stoner Rock. They released four albums before sadly splitting up in 2005. They’re one of those bands though, that when they split, every member continued and went on to do loads of good shit and played in/joined a number of big bands including Fu Manchu, Eagles of Death Metal, Them Crooked Vultures and Queens of the Stone Age. This track is playing in Rich’s head at the shit party. It’s such a big tune by a band that everyone with a passing interest in rock should check out.
Roll Deep - Good times
This tune abruptly bullies its way into the scene. This was Roll Deep’s comeback tune and it attracted a lot of criticism, as it was deemed too ‘Pop’. Songs like this make me laugh, it’s basically Roll Deeps way of telling us to seize the day: “if you see a good time grab it, have a laugh, we get one life and it goes quite rapid”. (shortly after this line) we get a close up of boobs. Not to sure what to read into that, but at a guess I’d say that it suggests Roll Deep get to sleep with loads of girls with boobs. Carpe Diem.
Slayer - Angel of Death
This is Rich’s moment to show everyone in the party what he’s into. It has to be
"SLAYYYYYYYYYYEEEEERRRRRRRR
RRRRRRAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!"
Unfortunately, he doesn’t get to play much of it before he’s thrown out on his arse. If after watching this episode you feel like you’re up for getting into a bit of thrash metal, I would strongly recommend Slayer being your first point of call. Slayer are one of the greatest bands in this genre, the album Reign in Blood is badass, Angel of Death is the first track on this album. I have to say (as obvious as it sounds) Raining Blood is the dog’s bollocks. I reckon I could knock Kimbo Slice out if I was listening to this song.
Drowning Pool - Bodies
Drowning Pool were formed in 1996 and have released only four albums. Weirdly each album featured a different lead singer. Bodies is their biggest single and is off their debut album, featuring the late Dave Williams on vocals. This is Metal Rich’s alarm clock… and after seeing that for the first time, I tried it, thinking it would be a weirdly pleasant way to start the day. It isn’t. That day was shit.
Napalm Death - Deceiver
There are loads of good Napalm Death tracks to warm you up for the big gig. It’s the theme for the character ‘Angel of Death’, who has to be one of the prettiest, meanest metal heads in all of the land. This is brutal. In my opinion it’s what dying a horrible death would sound like (in a good way of course). This is taken off the Noise For Music’s Sake album.
Napalm Death - Impressions
This is taken off the 1988 From the Enslavement to Obliteration album. It’s only a 35 second snippet but I think you’ll agree there’s a lot gone into that 35 seconds.
Napalm Death - You Suffer
Eeeeer, it’s 5 seconds long.
Fur Elise
This is one of Beethoven’s most famous compositions, and one of my favourites. It’s a lovely piece of music. This is playing in the scene where we see Grace’s “vag through her leotard”.
Burning Skies - RKD
These boys are a Bristol based Death Metal band signed to Life Force Records. Really glad this ended up in the show. They’re not very big but definitely deserve a listen. This comes in as Rich is walking over the hill and then lying by a tree smoking a cig.
Napalm Death - The Kill
This the first track off the Noise for Music’s Sake album; again it’s only 20 seconds long. Who knows what would happen if it went any longer, we’d probably all end up shitting ourselves (in a good way).
Cancer Bats - Sabotage
This is a really interesting cover of the Beastie Boys original. Which is also a proper tune. This track is playing in the metal shop when we meet the fun lovin’ legend that is Toxic Bob, aka Huey, from the Fun Lovin’ Criminals. The coolest of dudes.
Slayer - Piece by piece
This is a mad tune! I love the relentless drumbeat along with the snappy vocals on this. It’s the second track in the metal store.
Slipknot - Psychosocial
I have always been a Slipknot hater and this is something I’ve always been comfortable with. I’ve always seen them as a novelty and to be honest I never really took the time to appreciate the musicianship and melody they use to create music. I can’t deny they have made some fucking wicked music. This is the more pleasant track Toxic Bob lets Grace listen to.
Black Pyramid - Visions of Gehenna
Black Pyramid are one of the newer metal bands we have in Skins this year. A proper solid tune and one of my favourites in the episode. They are signed to MeteorCity Records who are home to a lot of Kyuss like bands. After Grace confronts Rich for being a dick to her, he walks away and then Visions of Gehenna does its thing.
The Strokes - Juice box
The Strokes are such a good band that back in the day they took over my life for a little bit. They’re one of them bands that come along and pave the way for so many others. They are definitely a band that I, like so many others, will be introducing to their children to explain how good we had it. This is a sicc tune, and whilst it’s done the rounds over recent years, it still holds so much relevance today. This is the first track in the Bar when Grace becomes a metal head.
Rage Against The Machine - Killing in the Name
Right, everybody loves this song and it undoubtedly encapsulates the scene perfectly. They did that massive gig at Finsbury Park in the summer. I lived in Finsbury Park last year and I saw wandering casualties for two days after. I’m not a Rage fan, but proper gutted I missed it.
If you didn’t spot it, which I’m sure you did, it’s the tune Rich and Grace dance and sing to in the bar.
Napalm Death - Success
This is taken of the 1987 album Scum, it has a pretty brutal intro but if you give it a chance it does have a really nice beat to it.
Napalm Death - Parasites
This came off Scum also, it’s 24 seconds of metal mayhem. They just pack so much into this stuff.
Slipknot - My plague
Another amazing tune from Slipknot, which I now accept I don’t hate. There’s a really nice bridge in this song, which comes in at 45 seconds. It’s the line that’s like ‘I don’t want you here…’ This contrasted against the predominantly aggressive vocals works perfectly, it’s a little bit buried in the song but I think it’s splendid. This comes in straight after Alo tells him to “man the f*ck up”.
Segal - Misplaced Abortion
This piece of music was strongly deliberated over. The piece needed to come from an individual who had true darkness within their soul so we asked Segal.

Vivaldi
This is the piece that accompanies Grace’s Ballet performance. This piece was written by Vivaldi in 1725 and is truly beautiful.
Napalm Death - Strong Arm
Massive thank you to Napalm Death. They were all true gentlemen and were absolutely brilliant in the show. This is the song they’re playing in the gig. I was on set to witness all of this mayhem first hand and it was incredible. This is the first track off the album Time Waits For No Slave. A massive moment for Skins. Again, Thank you.
Fur Elise
We now reprise this track from the beginning of the episode. When Grace bravely crowd surfs at the Napalm Death gig.
The entire sequence from when Rich goes deaf until the end of this reprise is truly beautiful. Sebastian Dale (our trusty Sound FX guy) created a soundscape for this and transformed the entire scene. This is, in my opinion, the most stunning moment in the series, there were literally tears in the studio when we mixed the episode, and you get it in episode 2 you lucky bastards!
Iron Maiden - Fear of the Dark
We have shied away from using the classic heavy metal giants throughout this episode, but we all felt that we earned this tune and what a way to bring us out of one of the most musically bold episodes in Skins history.
